The Swiss soprano Christina Karenovics began her career as a dancer, but soon discovered singing to be her true love. She pursued her passion, studying opera and graduating with honors from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and Tilburg.
She is currently coached by Gemma Visser and has supplemented her studies in master classes with leading lights Mirella Freni, Krisztina Laki, Kurt Widmer, and the Jeker Studio, each of whom has opened doors for her career. After a master class with Nelly Miricioiu, the celebrated bel canto specialist invited her to come to London for personal instruction.
Ms. Karenovics made her stage debut with Opera Zuid in Mozart’s Die Zauberfloete. Some favorite roles include Nedda in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci, Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata, Agathe in Weber’s Der Freischütz, the title role in Offenbach’s La Perichole, Yum-Yum in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Liu in Puccini’s Turandot, Lisa in Bellini's La Sonnambula, Josepha in Benatzky's Im weissen Rössel, and Michaela in Bizet’s Carmen."...sing on many European stages." Ms. Karenovics has been invited to sing on many European stages. She has performed as a soloist under important conductors such as Peter Robinson, Louis Buskens, Jacq van Steen, and Jan Cober and with orchestras such as the Nürnberger Symphonikern, the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra, the Fanfare Korps Koninklijke Landmacht, and The Limburg Symphony Orchestra. At the Koelner Kammeroper, she sang Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and recently, was asked to sing in the Shostakovich episode of the Dutch television program “Nps- Matinee”.
Future engangements, among others include the roles of Laura in Millöcker's Der Bettelstudent and Michaela in Bizet's Carmen.
Basellandschaftliche Zeitung, 16.05.2006: "And than the surprise of the evening: The soprano Christina Karenovics, who accompanied by the pianist Justyna Danczowska, with powerfull, expressive voice sang four songs and later in the evening an aria of the opera “Cosi fan tutte”.
